Spring 2022 Racing Season Calendar
Road racing in the spring is the club’s biggest season in terms of participation and we support a large contingent of racers ranging from beginner to elite amateurs. The Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (ECCC) sponsors events most weekends from early March until the end of April which the club participates in. In addition, many members of the club compete in the Cornell kit during the summer months locally and away from Ithaca.
The ECCC sanctions road racing at the following categories:
Men: A, B, C, D, Intro
Women: A, B, C, Intro
The breadth of these different categories ensures that a variety of riders, ranging from novices to people racing professionally in Europe, can all compete against people of their own skill and experience level.
Riders train heavily on their own time, mostly out on the roads, indoors on trainers during the winter if the weather is too cold, or participating in cross-training activities like cross-country skiing. Some of the more experienced racers mentor and coach the less experienced riders, allowing these riders to become experienced and successful in their own right.
Our 2012 season was very successful, including a third place finish in the nationals criterium, a 5th place in the nationals omnium, several wins at regional ECCC race, even more top five and top ten finishes, and multiple category upgrades. We hope to expand on our success in the 2013 season and qualify more riders for national, win more races, and upgrade more riders to higher categories.
If you’re interested in racing, we’ll see you on the road this spring!
