This page is for Cornell students who are interested in storing a bike on campus and are curious about the options available to them.
All residence halls have access to a bike room, which may or may not be located within the actual residence hall itself. For example, the Hu Shih and Ganedego bike rooms service all of North Campus. Each House in the West Campus system (Rose, Becker, Bethe, Cooke) have their own bike room in the main building. Your specific “bike room commute” (ie walking distance from dorm to bike room) will determine how convenient it is for daily use. The bike rooms are great for storage during vacations (especially winter break) , when you are not riding the bike every day and want to keep it protected and secure.
If your bike room commute is over five minutes, it is likely more practical to use a bike rack outside that is closer. There are many bike racks placed all over campus, with pretty good odds of finding one right outside the front door of your residence hall. A bike rack located under an overhang of a building or other covering is the next best option to a bike room, in terms of your bike’s longevity. Morning dew, rain, and snow WILL result in your bike rusting.
